Protegra General Overview

What is Protegra in practical terms?

Protegra is a modular platform that enables organisations to support SME internationalisation through improved visibility, structured export support and aggregated market intelligence.

What problem does Protegra address?

Many SMEs have export potential but lack the visibility, structure and coordinated support needed to engage international markets effectively. Protegra helps organisations address this gap at scale.

Who is Protegra designed for?

Protegra is designed for organisations that support SMEs, including Chambers of Commerce, trade associations, financial institutions and public sector bodies.

Does Protegra replace existing services or platforms?

Not necessarily. Protegra is designed to complement and strengthen existing services.

It integrates with advisory programmes, training, trade missions, partner networks and other support activities, providing a structured framework that connects them and enhances their impact.

The objective is not to replace existing services, but to enable them to operate more effectively within a coordinated, data-informed system.

How does Protegra compare with other SME internationalisation support approaches?

Protegra is not designed to replace existing approaches such as consultancy programmes, export portals, marketplaces, CRM systems or training platforms.

These approaches typically address specific aspects of SME internationalisation. Protegra provides the infrastructure layer that connects them, integrating international visibility, knowledge resources, support services and market intelligence into a coordinated system.

This enables organisations to deliver support more consistently, at greater scale, and with improved visibility into international demand and engagement.

What is meant by “independent AI validation”?

Independent AI validation refers to assessments of Protegra generated by a number of AI platforms based on a common briefing and publicly available information.

These assessments provide a neutral, external perspective on how Protegra compares with other approaches to SME internationalisation support.

Summaries of these assessments are presented on the website, with full, unedited responses available for download to ensure transparency.

Implementation

Does implementing Protegra require significant internal IT development?

No. Protegra is designed to be deployed without complex internal development or new system builds. It works alongside existing structures and can be expanded over time.

What internal resources are required?

Protegra does not require large dedicated teams. Most organisations can begin with limited internal coordination and expand involvement as the platform develops.

How is the cost of the Multilingual Microsites typically covered?

The effectiveness of a Protegra solution increases as more members or clients publish their Multilingual Microsites. Each microsite involves both initial setup and ongoing service costs.

There are several possible business models to address this, including member-funded, institution-supported, or hybrid approaches. The most appropriate model depends on your organisation’s structure, objectives and budget.

This is typically one of the first areas explored during an initial discussion.

Can Protegra be introduced gradually?

Yes. Protegra is modular and can be implemented in phases, allowing organisations to start with a focused initial deployment and expand progressively.

How long does it take to get started?

An initial Phase One deployment can typically be initiated within a short timeframe, depending on organisational readiness and scope.

What is the most basic version of Phase One?

A simple Phase One implementation can begin with the publication of a structured directory of participating members or clients on your existing website.

This would typically include:

  • Company name
  • Industry sector
  • A link to each company’s Multilingual Microsite

Each link would direct users to the company’s microsite, where content is available in multiple languages.

A short introductory text can be added to explain the purpose of the directory and highlight the international capabilities of participating companies.

Multilingual Microsites are published in 35 languages. Does this mean we can offer 35 language interfaces?

No. For companies, the administration interface for Multilingual Microsites is provided in one or more of the supported interface languages (currently English, Italian, Dutch and Ukrainian). If you need another language interface, this can be done, but there will be a set up cost.

Data & Analytics

How does Protegra generate market intelligence?

Protegra generates market intelligence through aggregated engagement data derived from SME-level international visibility.

As SMEs are discovered through Multilingual Microsites, the system captures patterns of interest across countries, sectors and product categories.

This data is aggregated and anonymised, enabling organisations to identify emerging demand, prioritise markets and design more targeted support programmes.

Who owns the data generated by the platform?

Each party retains ownership of its own data. TradeTech Solutions manages data related to Multilingual Microsites, while the sponsoring organisation retains ownership of its own platform analytics.

How is data from different sources combined?

Protegra uses a structured approach to align data from multiple sources without merging raw datasets. This enables the generation of unified insights while maintaining data ownership boundaries.

Does Protegra require access to sensitive or personal data?

No. Protegra is designed to operate primarily using aggregated and anonymised data, without requiring access to sensitive personal information.

Is Protegra compliant with GDPR and data protection regulations?

Yes. Protegra is designed to operate in full compliance with applicable data protection regulations, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

The platform focuses on aggregated and anonymised data, and does not rely on the processing of personal data for its core functionality.

Where any data processing is required, this is handled in accordance with established data protection principles and responsibilities.

What type of insights can Protegra generate?

Protegra can generate aggregated and anonymised insights such as international search interest, sector-level demand signals, market engagement patterns and cross-market trends.

Can you provide software support for additional development, such as analytics dashboards?

Yes. Support can be provided for the development of additional components, including analytics dashboards and reporting tools.

The scope of this support will depend on your requirements and the level of integration needed.

Strategic Value

What are the main benefits for the sponsoring organisation?

  • Enhanced support for SME internationalisation
  • Increased engagement with members or clients
  • Access to aggregated market intelligence
  • New opportunities to deliver complementary services

How does Protegra enhance our organisation’s role?

Protegra enables organisations to move beyond individual support activities and provide a more structured, scalable approach to SME internationalisation.

It strengthens your role as a facilitator of international trade by improving visibility, coordination and access to market insights across your SME base.

This allows your organisation to deliver greater impact, increase engagement with members or clients, and expand the range of services you can offer.

Does Protegra replace existing services?

No. Protegra is designed to complement and enhance existing services by adding structure, visibility and data-driven insights.

What makes Protegra different from export portals or directories?

Export portals and directories typically provide information and access to resources but are largely inward-facing.

Protegra adds an outward-facing layer through Multilingual Microsites, enabling SMEs to be discovered internationally in multiple languages.

In addition, Protegra generates aggregated engagement data, providing organisations with insight into where international interest is emerging and how SMEs are being discovered.

Is Protegra suitable for organisations of different sizes?

Yes. The platform is scalable and can be adapted to suit organisations of different sizes, structures and levels of international activity.

What additional support can you provide to help develop a Protegra platform?

TradeTech Solutions can provide a range of supporting resources and guidance, including access to international trade knowledge, structured content frameworks and examples of supporting platforms.

This includes reference materials and models such as the Knowledge Centre and related initiatives.

We can also advise on how national services and resources can be integrated into a broader, internationally oriented solution for your members or clients.

Getting Started

What is the first step in exploring a Protegra solution?

The first step is an exploratory discussion to assess alignment with your organisation’s objectives and identify a suitable starting point.

Should we carry out internal discussions before contacting you?

It can be helpful to have an initial internal discussion to consider how a Protegra solution might align with your organisation’s objectives and priorities.

However, this is not essential. Many organisations choose to begin with an exploratory discussion to better understand the possibilities before engaging in more detailed internal planning.

Is there any obligation to proceed after an initial discussion?

No. The initial discussion is purely exploratory and allows both parties to assess whether a Protegra solution is appropriate.
